Genie Safety Minute: Lifting A Boom & Scissor Lift

Always refer to the lifting instructions in the operator’s manual for the specific Genie mobile elevations work platform (MEWP). Operator’s manuals are found at https://www.genielift.com/en/support/manuals.

Only qualified riggers should rig and lift the machine.

Be sure the crane capacity, loading surfaces, and straps or lines are sufficient to withstand the machine weight.

Lifting instructions:

Fully lower and retract the boom/extension deck. Move the jib boom (if equipped) parallel with the ground.

Remove all loose items on the machine.

Determine the center of gravity of you machine. See here for examples.

Attach the rigging only to the designated lifting points on the machine.

Adjust the rigging to prevent damage to the machine and to keep the machine level.

Possibly use a spreader bar to keep the rigging from damaging the machine.

Genie Safety Minute is intended to facilitate health and safety discussions on the job site. For additional Genie Safety Minutes, visit https://www.genielift.com/en/aerialpros/. Always be sure to read your operator’s manual!
